The city of Ploiesti is located 35 miles north of the city of Bucharest, in what was once known as the Eastern Block. The city has endured many misfortunes between World War II and the 1990's. Under Nazi control, during WWII, Bucharest was an oil source and later was under oppressive communist regime leaders such as Nicolae Ceausescu. In 1989, the Romanian people revolted against the government, which opened the doors to freedom and capitalism.

In 1991, the doors of opportunity opened through Help Ministries Incorporated. Through a series of God-ordained events, Richard Ellison began a relationship with Mihail Mandoiu. Through much prayer and determination, and before the Romanian Government ever formed a radio and television division, property was purchased and construction started on the new studios for SOS Radio 101.7 fm. On October 1,1994, SOS Radio signed on the air and has continued to develop into a powerful influence in the city of Ploiesti. Now, 24-hours a day, a positive message of Jesus Christ is broadcast over the city of Ploiesti. Because of this radio station, we reach listeners who have become a family of caring partners in our ministry.
